Australia University in India: The campus of Wollongong University, one of the two in Australia, may start in India this year. Know what Australian Education Minister Jason Claire has told.

Australian University Campuses in India: Australian Education Minister Jason Clare said on Thursday that in Gujarat’s GIFT City University of Wollongong campus It is expected to start by the end of this year. Then from this year the first batch will also start and students will also get admission. Jason Clare, who is on a four-day visit to India, said that the campus will be small in the beginning. First will offer Finance and STEM i.e. Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths courses.
Claire told news agency PTI on the sidelines of an event, ‘Wollongong University has signed a letter of intent with the Government of India. We hope that the campus of GIFT City will start functioning by the end of this year. This will be the first Australian university to get a valuable opportunity.
However, the minister has not given any deadline for the commencement of the campus of Deakin University. He said, ‘More information will be available during the visit of the Australian Prime Minister next week.’
More foreign universities will come to India!
To a question about Australia’s plans to open campuses in India apart from GIFT City, Claire said that ‘three or four Australian universities may come together to open a joint campus in India. Some universities are also thinking of collaborating with an existing university or institute instead of setting up a separate campus in India.

Deakin University is ranked 266 in the QS World University Rankings. Many students of India go to study in it. Wollongong is at 185th place in this ranking. This university is the first foreign institution to start a campus in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
What is GIFT City?
Gandhinagar’s GIFT City is the first of its kind emerging global financial and information technology services hub in India. In the budget speech last year, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced that the government would allow setting up of Open World Level Foreign Universities here for skilled manpower in the financial services sector. As per rules, registration will be granted on the basis of recommendations of a committee of experts.

Significantly, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had announced on Wednesday that two Australian universities, Wollongong and Deakin, would open their campuses in GIFT City, Gujarat.
